: modeling I would like to focus on a subject that always is close to my heart, a disabled child. Many years ago, I was lucky enough to get to know the world of the disabled, specifically trained and still train together with a fantastic group of volunteers, children with various mental health problems, for a project in the district of Vicenza ( splinter group).
We relate through sport, we run together, we laugh, we make jokes, play games, wins and losses, some of them are struggling to speak, but the common language is nonverbal, smiles, throw the ball, hit the shoulder, we communicate well.
Sport, what a great invention, there are insurmountable limits, anything is possible when you are all set around a basket with the ball in hand.
Exercise helps as I have said to set aside their differences, but there are, are not hiding, indeed, be seen to be able to find a special way for us educators to explain and understand us, to teach, with no votes or opinions, just the pleasure to see that eventually the boys can do a dribble, a basket or a goal!
expectations of us educators to motivate them, are reflected in our eyes confident, thanks to encouragement "grow up feeling normal."
being shaped by us. Modeling the environment is therefore one of the normal pattern of growth, even and especially in the family, the child is born and his personality structure. Talk to people with disabilities and personality is not wrong, because the second is to be characterized by
meanings "modeled" after the first. The personality is the result of relationships that develop with the
others, that everyone has the image of himself as a result of the image that first the mother and then refer us to others. The combination of subject-
context is crucial in the construction of personality, even and especially in the case of disabled people. Just like a child "normal" s' establish expectations and patterns within the family and the environment, including for the disabled child will create expectations, with the difference that the latter are often negative, because the deficit.
Each subject is forced to survive to structure itself according to the model that the context
primary (family) refers to, then we speak of "prophecy" to indicate the path of growth
personality due to cross-reference - positive or negative - on the child's family.
In particular, the disabled child in most cases is forced to structure itself to "negative prophecies," because both the negative consequences resulting from the deficit, and the reaction of parents at the event, he then his personality structure in this way because others will confirm continuous
as "eternal disadvantage."
During the evolutionary development of these children tend to identify with the image of those who can not do, is consolidated at this point the famous "self-fulfilling prophecy" that leads to a vicious cycle of passive adaptation to the environment and a context that refers to a negative image, causing the liability.
In the next post will deal with the expectations associated with child birth and the reaction to the discovery of disability.
